« Der Drohnenpilot » | Torsten Nesch | Mixtvision, Germany | 14+ | 300pp
17-year-old Darius spends his free time playing ‘Raid’, an ego-shooter computer game. He has no perspective in life until he is contacted about a job opportunity upon completing the game. Darius agrees to meet with the company – it turns out that by playing and completing ‘Raid’ he underwent a training as a drone pilot. Lacking any alternatives, he accepts the job offer and soon proves to be quite good at his job. His social-minded girlfriend Evelyn is not happy with his choice – she has moral concerns about his involvement. At first, Darius only flies an unarmed drone in his hometown, but being so good at his job he is soon given more responsibility, patroling borders, then flying armed drones with the mission of destroying ships. But soon he starts questioning himself – is what he’s doing really ethical?
